Balloon Races

Yesterday our class made balloon racers. We had to be in a group between 2-3 people. We got a certain amount of supplies from Miss Craill which you can see in the photo below. Our group poked holes through our meat tray with skewers and then put on milk bottle tops as wheels. We then taped our balloon on and blew it up as big as we could without it popping. When the race started we let go of the balloon and the air made it go really fast. Our balloon didn't go far enough to get a placing but it was still fun.

Writing- A moment in time

Last week our class had a writing sample. We had to write a recount on anything we wanted in past tense. I decided to write mine on jumping off the Tolaga Bay Wharf. We had 15 minutes to write a plan in our draft and planning books. We then had 30 minutes to write our stories and then another 15 to recraft our writing and fix any mistakes. Our teacher then marked us in different areas of our writing based off the story. The scores we were given are out of six and you can see my scores in the orange pen in the first image, or in the writing rubric below. On the rubric the pink is the level I am at now and the blue is my next level.

Diorama

Hi :)
This week we had to make a diorama of a scene in our book we are reading, Dark Life. We got the option to do a 2d drawing individually or a 3d diorama in a pair. I made a diorama with Charlie. We based our diorama off a scene in the book where Ty, the main character, and Jemma, a girl Ty met found a wrecked submarine. We were most proud of the painting we did of a window looking out to the bottom of the ocean. Something we found hard and made us not finish to our best standards was our design. I think we made our design a bit too complicated and too hard to make in a 3d form.

Week six reflection

Hi :)
Last week was our first week back at school after lockdown. It felt really weird going back to school and seeing everybody after spending so much time at home. I found it a bit easier completing my tasks at school rather than at home last week. I think I completed all of my tasks except for some of my reading I had to do.
A task I enjoyed last week was our prior knowledge task we did. We began reading a book this week called 'Dark Life' by Kat Falls. Our prior knowledge task was based from the book and we did the task so we could have some background knowledge as we read the book. We had to pick two topics to make a poster about, I chose phytoplankton and deep water pressure. You can see my posters below.
A task that I didn't enjoy was Typing Club. The only reason I didn't like it is because I'm so used to typing normally and it was very hard for me to keep my fingers on the keys!
Last week I had no blockers for my learning because we have all been put on set tables, and last week I found our table really good and I didn't get distracted by anyone.
My goal for this week is to try to complete my Write That Essay to a good standard because sometimes I find it hard writing about topics given to me.

Acid Rain

This week in class we had to write about an environmental issue. I chose to write about acid rain because I found it interesting.

budget task

In my class Lh1 our term 4 focus is money. We have a new system in Lh1 called Banquer.  On banquer we get paid Banquer dollars for tasks we do, and we can use our money to buy seats and beanbags. We had to do a task on budgets, here is mine.
